Three Generations of Watermelon Heritage

One of the most established watermelon growers and wholesale distributors in the United States. PrimusGFS certified, growing, harvesting, packing, and distributing premium-quality watermelons to major retail, wholesale, and foodservice markets across North America.

Our History

Deep Texas Roots

The Borders family has been growing watermelons since the 1960s, when Ronnie Borders began farming at just 16 years old. Over the following decades, he cultivated crops throughout Texas and earned a reputation for innovation, hard work, and an uncompromising commitment to quality.

Ronnie was among the first growers to bin watermelons directly in the field, dramatically reducing bruising and preserving fruit quality from harvest to delivery. That pioneering approach became the foundation of our operation — and remains our standard today.

Expansion

Expanding Our Reach

In the 1980s, Ronnie officially founded Borders Melon Co., establishing what would become one of the largest watermelon growing and shipping operations in North America.

Growing up in the family business, Nowell Borders developed a deep understanding of every aspect of watermelon production. He later relocated to South Texas, where he expanded the family’s growing regions, strengthened customer relationships, and extended operations into Mexico. As the company continued to grow, Borders Melon East was established to support customers throughout the eastern United States with dependable, high-quality supply.

Today

Modern Scale. Family Values.

Today, Borders Melon Co. is a third-generation family operation led by Nowell Borders alongside his sons, Dalton and Kelton.

Our growing and supply network spans Southern Mexico, South Texas, West Texas, Florida, and Georgia, allowing us to plant and harvest throughout the year. With production taking place somewhere every day, we provide our customers with a reliable, 52-week supply of premium watermelons.

We maintain control of every step in the process — from growing and harvesting to field-binning, packing, and logistics. This vertically integrated approach allows us to deliver consistent quality, dependable service, and complete traceability from the field through shipment to the customer destination.

More than sixty years after Ronnie Borders planted his first crop, our mission remains unchanged:

There is no substitute for quality.
